Travel back in time with me to Phoenix, Arizona; my home away from home for never released interviews from 2013.
The rise of concert culture in Phoenix has changed its identity from a layover town to a live music destination. In this episode, we go inside the Crescent Ballroom and Last Exit Live with live electronic band Lotus and bluegrass band, Dead Winter Carpenters for a deep dive into the energetic triad between venue, musician and audience. Will Bruder, famed architect of Burton Barr Phoenix Central Library, will join us to offer insight into his connection to space and a wild story about fringed suede boots in the 60’s. And while 9 years have passed since these discussions, the enchantment of music and venue is timeless…maybe everything hasn’t changed.

Lotus Guitar Licks at Crescent Ballroom: Channeling of emotion
When I first saw Lotus at a music festival called Wakarusa, my life changed. Their song, Livingston Storm brought me into a world of music I never knew existed. Speaking with their former guitarist, Mike Rempel, gave me insight into why I felt so moved. This guy is tapped into the full energetic exchange between musician, audience and venue. Join us as we talk in the green room at Crescent Ballroom; the venue that changed the music landscape of Phoenix. |
Beer soaked fiddles in a cool warehouse district clubhouse.
50,000+ miles per year are asked of the Dead Winter Carpenters’ travel van. They love being on the road and the inspiration it provides for their songs. The band’s guitarist and fiddler, Jesse and Jenni, meet with me at Live Exit Live and solve the age-old mystery of fiddle vs violin.
